Land clearing prices vary more than almost any other outdoor service, because no two lots are alike. A lightly wooded acre and a dense, stumpy, low-lying acre can differ by thousands. Here's what actually drives the number on a Nash County lot.
What drives land-clearing cost
- Acreage. The obvious one, though per-acre cost usually drops a bit on larger jobs.
- Tree density and size. A few large hardwoods versus thick underbrush is a big swing.
- Stumps. Grinding or pulling stumps adds cost; leaving them is cheaper but limits use.
- Debris disposal. Hauling off, chipping, or on-site burning each carry different costs.
- Terrain and access. Wet ground, slopes and hard-to-reach lots slow equipment down.
- Grading. Leveling the lot to build or use is a separate step beyond clearing.
Clearing methods make a difference
Forestry mulching grinds brush and small trees in place with no haul-off, often the most cost-effective option for underbrush. Traditional clearing is better for larger trees, stump removal and full grading. We recommend the right approach for your lot, more in bush hogging vs. forestry mulching.
Budgeting expectations
As a rough guide, lightly wooded land can start in the low-to-mid hundreds to a couple thousand dollars per acre, while dense lots with stump removal and grading can run several thousand per acre. Treat these as ballpark ranges. What to expect step by step is in our land clearing guide.
